San Diego's habitat preserves in Del Mar Mesa are critical wildlife corridors connecting Torrey Pines State Park, Los Penasquitos Lagoon, Carmel Mountain Preserve, Shaw Valley Open Space, Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve & Del Mar Mesa Preserve.

The critical wildlife corridor connecting six preserves and site of the popular Shaw Valley Trail. Two large vernal pool complexes are located in the southern portion.

The 1000 acre preserve is home to dozens of endangered, listed and rare species, and vernal pool complexes, adjacent to Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve.
